25 Days of Christmas Prophecies

Day 12 – Full of the Holy Spirit

“Behold My Servant, whom I uphold, My Chosen, in whom My soul delights; I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.”

– ISAIAH 42:1 ESV –

Yesterday, we saw Jesus presented as the Chosen Servant of Jehovah.  Today, God declares He has “put His Spirit upon Him” – in other words, He will be anointed and full of the Holy Spirit.  God gives us a clear view to this at the baptism of Jesus:

“After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and John saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased’” (Matthew 3:16-17 NASB95).

Just like our prophecy from Isaiah, Jesus’ baptism puts on display both the fullness of the Spirit of God and the delight of the Father in this beautiful communion of the Trinity.

And because Jesus was the Spirit-filled Servant of Jehovah, He always deferred to the Father’s will and never independently exercised His divine power.  Even in His greatest moment of trial, Jesus prayed, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42 NASB).  Why?  Because He came to serve.

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (Jesus, John 15:13 NASB95).
