Servant of Jehovah
“Behold My Servant, whom I uphold, My Chosen, in whom My soul delights; I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.”
– ISAIAH 42:1 ESV –
Earthly rulers frequently like to flaunt their titles and flex their authoritarian muscles. Certainly, being the only Son of God, the rightful heir to the throne of David and the coming King of Kings, Messiah could have asserted His royal title and divine pedigree.
Instead, Jesus willingly set aside His heavenly crown to sacrificially serve, “Then I said, ‘Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of Me. I delight to do Your will, O My God; Your Law is within My heart’” (Psalm 40:7-8 NASB95; Hebrews 10:7).
What King does that? King Jesus does – both to God’s delight and to our redemption.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 NASB).
