“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

– ISAIAH 7:14 ESV –

We must think deeply on this same verse two days in row.  “Behold” is always a marker in Hebrew for the hearer to wake up, listen up and pay attention because something highly significant is about to be said. 

And here, we behold one of the most meaningful and mysterious statements ever uttered.  Not only will God supernaturally intervene by sending His Holy Spirit to cause the virgin to miraculously conceive, but the Child she will bear will be called “Immanuel.”

This Child will be born like every other human and yet unlike any other human.  For God’s One and Only virgin-born Son will be The Promised One – the Messiah – “Immanuel” – “With Us, God.”
