The Stump of Jesse
“Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch from his roots will bear fruit. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to Him, and His resting place will be glorious.”
– ISAIAH 11:1 NASB & 11:10 NIV –
Have you ever cut down a tree thinking it was dead only to later see new growth coming out of the stump? That’s exactly the prophecy God gave “Isaiah” (“Yahweh is Salvation”) here.
Jesse, the son of Ruth and Boaz, the father of King David, died 300 years before the nation of Israel was cut down to only a stump as it was taken away into exile by Babylon.
But behold, God allows us to see below ground level to a Root of Jesse that is still alive! And 700 years later, a Root – a Shoot – a Branch – the Messiah will spring forth!
